Board of Directors
The Role of the Board
As a not-for-profit, the Iyengar Yoga Centre is governed by the Board of Directors. They work behind the scenes on the Centre's behalf. Members of the Board help keeping track of our Budget, report to Ann Nolan, while others report on programming; liase with the newsletter committee; the teacher's group; dispense scholarships and bursaries. This dedicated group of volunteers meets monthly throughout the year. Under our President Krysia Strawczynski we keep an eye on events around the Centre. Many times when you see someone in the kitchen at a gathering, or the recent tea party, you will likely find a Board member elbow deep in soap suds.
From the President
The heart and purpose of our Centre is the teaching. We in Victoria are truly blessed by the quality and commitment of our teachers, foremost among them Shirley Daventry French. We are also in the enviable position of having a growing number of experienced senior teachers as well as more junior ones whom they are mentoring.
Our Centre would not be viable without the hundreds of volunteer hours generously contributed by our members, teachers and staff. Volunteers are essential for so many aspects of the Centre including producing the newsletter, assisting in special needs classes, maintaining the physical infrastructure and supporting Teacher-training and Assessments.
Financial challenges due to the general economic situation are increased by competition from the proliferation of others offering yoga classes.
Prudent financial management over the years has avoided our going into debt, but Class enrollment needs to increase. Last year we introduced a
number of special offers and we continue to fine-tune our programming. I urge you to do whatever you can to bring more people to the Centre to
enjoy the benefits of Yoga as taught in the tradition of BKS Iyengar.
